Tree Felling Authorisation
Permits for felling protected trees in the inner area of the city of Suhl (in connection with developed and inhabited properties that are designated as building areas in the land-use plan) are regulated by the tree protection statute of the city of Suhl on the basis of the Federal Nature Conservation Act and the Thuringian Nature Conservation Act. The tree protection regulations stipulate the conditions under which private property owners are permitted to fell protected trees on their property.
In principle, it is prohibited for anyone to remove, destroy, damage or significantly change the structure of protected trees without a special permit, which can be punished under administrative law with a fine of up to €50,000.00.
Fruit trees (except walnut trees), conifers (except yew trees), poplars and birches as well as all trees with a trunk circumference of less than 60 cm, measured at a height of one meter, do not require a permit.
In order to fell trees, an application must be submitted to the "Communal Forest / Urban Trees Department" in the Public Order Office. Application form: under Tree felling permit.pdf
By issuing a tree felling order, the applicant may be required to take compensatory measures in the form of compensatory plantings or compensation payments.
An application will be processed within 4 weeks.
For all trees in outdoor areas (land in the open countryside that is used for gardening, gardens, bungalow developments, undeveloped land, etc.) an application must generally be submitted to the municipal forest/urban trees department. Processing is carried out on the basis of the Federal Nature Conservation Act and the Thuringian Nature Conservation Act.
